Beginning Classes

And for those of you looking to start working in Textiles, we have some wonderful Beginning Classes as well.  Taught by very experienced and patient Instructors, they have extensive knowledge in how to get you started properly – and make it fun!  These classes are kept very small, so you get the proper attention to ensure your success.

Group Classes

Just looking for some like-minded folks to craft with regularly?  Want to tackle new projects and techniques, but prefer the “safety net” of a Teacher?  Then our regular Group Classes are for you!

Group Classes are offered every day of the week and are kept to an 8 person maximum.  Join a fun group while you work on your individual projects – and get expert help from one of our great Instructors.

General Knitting

These small groups allow you to receive individualized Instructor coaching on your own project, as well as learn from what others are doing.  Knitters of all levels find these General Knitting groups fun, supportive and very creative.

You will find yourself trying new techniques with the certainty of knowing the Instructor – and your fellow knitters – have your back!  Guaranteed to provide you with lots of fun and plenty of new skills – plus some new friends to boot.

You will learn all the basics in this class – how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off.  You will also be introduced to patterns and how to read them.

 

Beginning Crochet

Crochet patterns, hooks and yarnLearn how to crochet – it’s not your Grandmothers crochet anymore!  Crochet is trending up, with lots of hip new patterns available.

You will learn all the basic crochet stitches – chain stitch, as well as single and double crochet.  You will also be introduced to patterns and how to read them.

Come join a renowned Portland Spinner who can teach you the Zen of spinning. She will work with each student individually, providing coaching and advice directed at your needs.

Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom

weaving-on-rigid-heddle-loom_600Learn to weave!  This four week class is for Beginners, where you will learn how to set up and use your loom, plus choose yarns for weaving. Instruction will focus on how to weave for great results – yeah!

Experienced weavers can also enjoy learning to use a Rigid Heddle Loom – because don’t you want to have “portable weaving” become possible?!

In this small group class you will have hands-on help every step of the way.  First project is your choice of a woven scarf or cowl, with samples and recommended yarns to ensure your success. You will also receive a helpful list of terms, suggested resources, and a step-by-step guide to the process that will take you from “What can I make?” to “Wow! Look what I made!”

Please note you will need to have – or buy – a Rigid Heddle Loom to participate. Northwest Wools is happy to assist with Special Ordering your Loom by providing you with a “Student Discount” – once you are registered for the class.

 

Private Classes

Private ClassesThese sessions are for when you want one-on-one instruction – or need some extended time to help solve a project problem.

They are also good when class schedules are just not working for you – and you need to set up a more convenient time for project help or learning new skills & techniques. These can be booked in 1 hour or 30 minute increments.
