Habu Textiles Trunk Show: Noon – 6pm &
Habu Yarn Tasting: 7pm – 8pm
Both events are happening at Northwest Wools on First Friday, February 2nd.
Habu Textiles Trunk Show: 12pm-6pm
We are excited and pleased to be hosting Takako Ueki, owner of Habu Textiles, here at Northwest Wools. We have been hoping to do so for many years and finally got the opportunity now that Takako has moved Habu Textiles to Portland! Yowza! Is this great news or what?
We find the unique, daring and playful yarns of Habu inspirational. We have created many wonderful shop models from her fabulous yarns and are always looking for new, cool things to make with them. We can’t wait to see all her new creations!
Takako will be bringing many sample garments and accessories to her Trunk Show. These sample items will allow you to see the breadth of her unique yarns which are amazing! We here at Northwest Wools carry many of her yarns, and we just don’t have the room to carry everything (though we sure wish we did!). So this is your chance to see how her other yarns work into finished items. You can even try these sample items on and see how they are made for even more inspiration! Yowza!
So we hope you won’t miss this rare opportunity and will stop by during the Trunk Show to get inspired with some of Habu’s fabulous textural yarns!
Habu Textiles Yarn Tasting: 7pm-8pm
This is a super special event and I am already salivating! I haven’t had a chance to try all of these unique yarns yet, so I’m dying to get them on my needle. Yowza!
Please join us in this very special Habu Textiles Yarn Tasting
Please join us to learn more about how these yarns are made directly from the owner and creative force behind Habu Textiles. This is a very rare opportunity to try out these unique yarns under Takako’s direction. Takako will be putting together special Habu Textile Yarn Bags for us which will include samples of many of her unique yarns. These yarn bags will only be available for purchase for $20 during the Yarn Tasting. This is an amazing value to sample these wonderful yarns!

Meet Wendy Hanson and learn about her very special yarns and fibers from Shaggy Bear Farms. Wendy runs a “Farm to Needle” operation in Scio, Oregon and manages a flock of over 400 animals. And many of these are “rescue animals”! So your purchases not only support Wendy, but also all of these wonderful animals she has saved. Yowza!
Wendy will be bringing a roomful of her lovely hand-dyed yarns for Knitters, Weavers and Crocheters. Beautiful blends of Tussah Silk and Merino, plus unique yarns from her many varieties of animals. And we love her color palette! Solid and variegated yarns to mix and match – we promise you’ll love her colors and her yarns’ wonderful “hand”.
She’ll also have lots of un-dyed roving from her unique breeds, too. So all you Spinners will have a treat!
Shaggy Bear Farms creates many yarns & roving with unique fiber combinations. So come check out all of the many fiber combinations in Wendy’s yarns, and meet Wendy herself. You will leave knowing a lot more about the life of a small independent Farmer and Dyer – and her many breeds of animals.
We hope you will join us for wine – and say hello to Wendy of Shaggy Bear Farms during First Friday in Multnomah Village. There’s always lots happening during First Fridays in “the Village in the heart of Portland”!
We love making – and wearing – Summer Tops and Accessories. Yowza! As the weather heats up, we turn to blends of Linen, Cotton, Silk, Rayon, Bamboo and other plant fibers. These yarns create wonderfully cool tops and accessories. Many of our yarns are “all season” in the Pacific NW, so your hand-made item can be worn year-round. Another reason we love living here! We carry a large color palette in these yarns, so you can find just the right color for you.
We look forward to your visit to check out these fun items (and many more!) to Knit, Crochet or Weave for your summer wearing pleasure.
Here is Northwest Wool’s instructor, Judy, wearing the new shop model she knit using Juniper Moon Farm Zooey yarn. We just love the yoke on this lovely summer weight top! The pattern is called Derecho and is available on Ravelry. The combination of Linen and Cotton in the textured Zooey yarn is perfect for summer and is distributed by Knitting Fever and Euro Yarns. It comes in TONS of great colors, too, and we have a very large color palette to choose from – yowza! It’s an easy knit for a cool look!
Northwest Wools staffer, Beth, knit this great season-spanning vest called Sycamore Vest by Hannah Fettig, available in the Home & Away book and as an individual pattern on Ravelry. Beth used one of our favorite multi-season yarns Soft Linen from Classic Elite Yarns. The vest would be great over jeans or a summer dress or anything in between! We accessorized it with the Reversible Turkish Cowl. This pattern was created by Northwest Wools staffer, Sophie Bayard, and is also available on Ravelry. The cowl is knit with a variegated Silky Merino from Malabrigo yarn.
Tinaka crocheted this cool summer top using Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, another great season-spanning yarn. We love this easy and versatile crochet pattern called Seaside Blouse by Annie Dempsey of Oat Couture available on Ravelry. Can’t you just imagine this over a tee or a tank for a day of fun? Or how about with a dressy blouse or dress for an evening out? It’s a versatile look for all you Crocheters!
Northwest Wools Owner, Jackie, created this colorful and easy Crochet Cowl pattern with season-spanning in mind. It’s simple stitch allows you to “sit and sip” while crocheting, or chat with your friends at a baseball game or the pool. The beautiful variegated Silky Alpaca Lace from Classic Elite Yarns creates all the drama! Pattern is free with yarn purchase.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you are interested in making any of these fun Summer Tops and Accessories. We are here to help you in any way we can. Our yarn shop is open seven days a week and late on Thursdays evenings for your convenience. Our phone number is 503-244-5024 if you are not local and wish to order any of these items – or anything we carry! And don’t forget to check out other great ideas for things you can make on our Facebook page.
Wishing you a great start to a fun, fiber-filled Summer!
