Weave a project, not a sampler! Using Betty Davenport's Linen Runner from Hands On Rigid Heddle Weaving as inspiration, we will weave a table runner with a variety of lace or open weave techniques. Create one for your own holiday table, or complete one or more in time for holiday gift-giving season.

Class description: Warp your loom at home using a washable yarn: e.g., cotton, linen,
hemp or a blend. (Note to beginners: 100% linen can be very challenging when used in the warp. A linen/cotton blend is a good choice.) In class we will weave a plain-weave project interspersed with areas of leno, Brooks bouquet, Spanish lace and Danish medallions. A handout with instructions is included.

Requirements:
• Ability to warp and weave on a rigid heddle loom
• Rigid heddle of appropriate size for your yarn weight:

◦ 7.5 or 8 dent heddle for worsted or DK weight yarn, 800-1000 yards per pound.
◦ 10 dent heddle for DK or sport weight yarn, 1200-1500 yards per pound.
◦ 12 or 12.5 dent heddle for fingering or lace weight yarn, 1600-2000 yards per pound.

• 300-400 yards of yarn of appropriate weight for your heddle
• A few yards of yarn in contrasting colors and weights
• 2 or more stick shuttles
• Crochet hook (optional)
• Darning or blunt needle (optional)
• String or scrap yarn
• One or two pick-up stick(s)
• Tapestry beater, fork, or hair pick for beating in weft

Homework:
Warp a project 12-15 inches wide and 1.75 or more yards long on your loom. Our table runner project will use approximately 60 inches of warp. You can use additional warp for another project or sampling, if desired.
Wind the warp onto the back beam, thread the heddle, and tie onto the front beam. Spread the warp with scrap yarn or string. Plan to hemstitch the front and back ends, if desired.
