Two-Handed Fair Isle Class
Two-Handed Fair Isle Class
Saturday, 10/26/24
10:30 am – 12:30 pm
If you love the look of Fair Isle knitting designs but are nervous about all those floats, then this is the class for you! In our Two-Handed Fair Isle class, you’ll learn how to knit using the “other” hand so you’ll be able to carry a color in each hand. This technique will teach you how to catch the stranding yarn frequently, creating a woven-looking fabric on the wrong side. It’s not as hard as it sounds, and it’s lots of fun!
This is an intermediate-level class. Students should know how to knit in the round on circular needles.
Skills you will learn in this class:
- How to knit holding the yarn in the opposite hand than what you are used to (picking vs. throwing)
- How to read a basic knitting chart
- The Two-Handed Fair Isle method of knitting colorwork
Required materials:
- Two contrasting colors of yarn in the weight of your choice. Do not use a fingering weight yarn for this project
- A 16” circular needle in the size that matches your yarn of choice (e.g., size 6 needles and DK-weigh yarn, size 8 and worsted).
- Stitch marker to mark beginning of round
Homework:
Cast on enough stitches to fill the circular needle. Place a stitch marker for beginning of round and join, being careful not to twist. Knit one round in the first color. Bring this knitted round and the second color to class.
