Who We Are
Northwest Wools is proud to be Portland’s Oldest Yarn Shop — serving the needs of our customers for over 30 years from our charming location in Multnomah Village.
Our customers span multiple generations, and we love watching our fiber family expand and grow. We work hard to provide every customer with great service; whether it’s advice on yarns, inspiring new project ideas, helping with challenging patterns, or placing special orders, we’d love to assist you. All of our staff members are experts at their fiber crafts, and most are skilled in multiple areas. We have the knowledge to resolve most any fiber question!
Historic Multnomah Village is located in Southwest Portland, just minutes from downtown. It’s filled with dozens of unique shops, restaurants, cafes, and the Multnomah Arts Center. The Village is quaint, charming, a bit off-center, and quintessentially Portland!

What We Do
At Northwest Wools, we are committed to giving knitters, crocheters, weavers, and felters a variety of choices in all-natural yarns and fibers.
We remain committed to carrying a wide array of natural fibers, including alpaca, angora, bison, camel, cashmere, llama, merino, mohair, yak, and several varieties of wool. We have plenty of plant-based fibers as well: bamboo, chenille, cotton, linen blends, rayon, silk, Tencel, and viscose.
Our large yarn inventory includes big-name commercial yarns and many independent dyers. We make sure to have a range of color choices and sweater or afghan quantities for larger projects. We carry the largest inventory of spinning and felting fibers in Portland. We have hand-dyed roving braids from Dicentra Designs, Shaggy Bear Farms, and Woolgatherings, colored merino roving from Foxglove Fibers, and un-dyed white top roving from Brown Sheep. Plus, we carry un-dyed unique or rare breed roving from Shaggy Bear Farms, as well as other specialty fibers.
We also carry a large selection of needles, hooks, accessories, patterns, books, magazines, and gift items — all aimed at fiber artists’ needs. We have equipment and accessories for weavers, spinners, and felters as well; some are available in the shop, while others are available as special orders to ensure the exact requirements are met. We have one of the largest button selections in town, many from independent artists like One of a Kind Buttons and Favour Valley Buttons.
We offer a wide array of knitting, weaving, crochet, felting, and spinning classes with some of the most experienced instructors in the Portland area. Please see our classes page for more information, or contact the store to register.
