About Us
Who We Are
Northwest Wools is proud to be Portland’s oldest yarn shop — serving the needs of our customers for over 35 years from our charming location in Multnomah Village.
Our customers span multiple generations, and we love watching our fiber family expand and grow. We work hard to provide every customer with great service; whether it’s advice on yarns, inspiring new project ideas, helping with challenging patterns, or placing special orders, we’d love to assist you. All of our staff members are experts at their fiber crafts, and most are skilled in multiple areas. We have the knowledge to resolve most any fiber question!
Looking for that special yarn?
We carry hand-dyed yarns from local independent dyers including: Fiona Kay Knits, Garage Dyeworks, Knitted Wit, Mosaic Moon, Shaggy Bear Farms, and Three Fates Yarns.
What We Do
At Northwest Wools, we are committed to giving knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers and felters a variety of choices in all-natural yarns and fibers.
Our extensive yarn inventory includes big-name commercial yarns and many independent dyers. We make sure to have a range of color choices, and sweater or afghan quantities for larger projects. We carry the largest inventory of spinning and felting fibers in Portland. We have hand-dyed roving braids from Dicentra Designs, Shaggy Bear Farms and Three Fates Yarns, colored merino roving from Foxglove Fibers, and un-dyed white top from Brown Sheep. Plus, we carry un-dyed unique and rare breed roving from Shaggy Bear Farms, as well as other specialty fibers.
We also carry a large selection of needles, hooks, accessories, patterns, books, magazines, and gift items — all aimed at fiber artists’ needs. We have equipment and accessories for weavers, spinners, and felters as well; some are available in the shop, while others are available as special orders to ensure the exact requirements are met.
We offer a wide array of knitting, weaving, crochet, felting, and spinning classes with some of the most experienced instructors in the Portland area. Please see our classes page for more information, or contact the store to register.
