Cobra Lily Kerchief
Cobra Lily Kerchief
We created the Cobra Lily Kerchief pattern for the 2024 Rose City Yarn Crawl.
Darlingtonia State Natural Site, just outside Florence, is dedicated to the protection of Oregon’s only native pitcher plants — Darlingtonia californica. Also known as cobra lilies, these rare plants live in very specific environments along the Oregon coast. The Cobra Lily Kerchief draws inspiration from the strange shapes and vibrant colors of Darlingtonia’s mottled, semi-transparent pitchers. Crocheted with just two skeins of Berroco’s 100% recycled fiber yarn, Remix Light, this pattern is quick to make and impressive to wear.
The plants that inspired this pattern lure and trap insects in their uniquely developed hooded leaves, where they are absorbed by the plant for their nutrients. The designer found a beautiful symmetry between the carnivorous plants, which recycle nutrients in insects to offset their less-than-ideal growing conditions, and the yarn used for the Kerchief, made from recycled garment industry leftovers with the goal of offsetting industrial waste.
Kit includes the pattern and two skeins of Berroco Remix Light. Recommended hook size: US F/3.75 mm (not included).
