The Turned to Stone Hood, our 2026 Rose City Yarn Crawl knit pattern, is a cozy cover-up for your head and neck. It features snake-like cables reminiscent of Medusa, the famous Gorgon of myth whose serpent-covered head turned mortals to stone. The hood’s unique construction makes it a fun knit, and the softness of Fiona Kay Knit’s Outlaw DK yarn will make you never want to take it off.
Construction of the hood begins with the bottom cable. Once complete, the ends are joined to create a loop. From there, stitches are picked up and the cowl portion is knit in the round. The hood portion is worked back and forth, and finished at the top with a three-needle bind-off.
Kit includes the pattern and two skeins of Fiona Kay Knits Outlaw DK yarn (100% Superwash Wool; 231 yds per 100 g skein).
Recommended needles (not included):
US size 7/4.5 mm 24-inch circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
Additional US Size 7/4.5 mm needle in any length for three-needle-bind-off, or size needed to obtain gauge
US Size 5/3.75 mm needle in any length
Notions (not included): 4 stitch markers, cable needle
